The 3 R’s of Cultural Evolution

Revelation, Re-evaluation and Revolution

The mission of Abracadia is to contribute to lifting our horizons in the tumultuous times.

In these topsy days and turvy nights when the world is as surreal and dream-like (traum-atic) as a novel or a movie, the mission and products of Abracadia are now a reality.

Humanity is on the brink of global enslavement by organised crime. Corrupt degenerate leaders puffed up with hubris have forgotten they’re our servants not our masters, tossing lives like low casino chips. That is the front-page headline of our age; the rest is gossip and cartoons.

In response, the past hundred years or so has seen the growth of a broad tsunami of disruptive creative action worldwide, a ubiquitous revolution of the mind and uplifting of the spirit through culture. Unsurprisingly, the ever rough and ready London mix plays a big part; who’s best with the language half the world speaks and who’s closer to the eye of the storm?

All artists named on this site and in the novel are part of that natural mystic blowing in the wind. Like leaves on a spreading tree we are countless and all in a godly spirit that denounces and transgresses tyranny. Abracadia’s mission is to remind us all that we share the mission of our Ancestors: to restore meaning, purpose and agency to our lives through forward-headed cultural action.

The mission of Abracadia throughout is to announce our ineluctable victory, and to help spread the good news far and wide:

Jah live!

In keeping with the spirit of Maroon tradition, the products of the House of Abracadia signify a true revolution: one built on the accumulated legacy of our great souljahs, the Ancestors. Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come.

Revolution is the wheel of Karma turning. It is not bloodshed or hate. Revolution is in and of the mind. It is not of externals, but intrinsic. Revolution may be political as consciousness may impact society, but it is not Political because it is not a bought and paid for farce. It is organic, holistic and fractal: personal, social, global. Like Karma: If it is not spiritual, revolution is nothing.

Above all revolution is cultural. Culture is the expression of humanity, the shaping of human experience into shared meaning. Because of the intolerable experiences of Remi D’s Windrush generation, the UK’s cosmopolitan urban mix has been in a musical state of revolution since Bob did ‘Catch a Fire’ here in ’72.

Names like Bob Marley, Ray Davies, Ronnie Scott, Ginger Johnson and Ernest Ranglin in the 60s-70s. Aswad, Grace Nichols, The Specials, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Benjamin Zephaniah and Amy in the 80s-2000s. Stormzy, Lowkey, Skinnyman, Akala, Little Simz, Kokoroko, Mark Kavuma and Lemn Sissay today. Such dazzling revolutionary urbanites have kept the flame alight. Blow after blow it keeps coming, and when it hits you feel no pain, just one love.

Revolution is culture in metamorphosis: In times of darkness it is the moth: airborne, fluttering and elusive, always seeking the light. In brighter days it is the butterfly.
